The American Cancer Society (ACS) recently honored Nancy Kane, director of the Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care, and Paula Plona, a social worker at the Payson Center, for volunteerism and ongoing commitment to cancer programs and services.
Kane, who has been an ACS volunteer for 25 years, received the Singer Family Award. Created in 1993, the Singer Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to American Cancer Society programs and activities, engaged in policymaking and leadership roles, and helped promote the financial viability of ACS.
Plona earned the Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Values Award, which recognizes volunteers who exemplify the society's five values of mission, diversity, stewardship, respect and data-driven. The award honors the memory of Sandra Labaree, a former ACS member and founding member of the New England division board.
