Internet Commerce Expo (ICe), Booth 859 -- MessagingDirect announces M-Vault, a second-generation directory that has been built specifically for Extranet Commerce.

Its key differences with existing solutions are the full integration of security including certificate generation and management -- all in one Vault. This enables breakthrough pricing that meets the needs of the extended enterprise to securely and cost/effectively communicate with its large customer and supplier base. The price breakthrough makes it feasible to set up secure business networks with huge numbers of users.

Of more importance is the new TRUSTED DIRECTORY model being introduced by MessagingDirect, which will be a key to enabling simple and low cost e-commerce.

M-Vault delivers directory and security services to support electronic communication, by effectively storing and managing very high volumes of system and user information, and security technology at very low costs.

MessagingDirect offers a solution with M-Vault, by providing a directory which can, itself, generate and manage X.509 certificates and public keys at low cost in addition to supporting the services of all leading third party Certification Authorities.

M-Vault combines the storing and managing of 'white pages' and messaging service configuration and routing information, with the functionality to operate as a 'trusted authority', generating certificates and public/private key pairs.

M-Vault offers a fully standards compliant, scalable, robust and high performance directory service, with proven scalability to tens of millions entries per database. Native LDAPv3 support delivers high performance and access to all LDAP servers within the Extranet. X.500 (1993) is fully supported, specifying rigorous and proven standards for data replication, access control, X.509 strong authentication and other security features, which are highly advantageous in an Extranet environment where trust is critical.

LDAP over SSL/TLS (Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security) versions of M-Vault are also available. SSL/TLS provides encryption while on-line to preserve data confidentiality (e.g. for user names and passwords). This capability is also fundamental for supporting the trusted directory model.

Sophisticated operational tools are critical for hostile Extranet territories and M-Vault's graphical interfaces, Web interfaces and wizards are designed specifically to enable effective, low cost management in complex environments. A high level of functional control is provided, across multiple distributed servers, simplifying administration complexity. Security management is powerful and flexible, and directories are quick and easy to install, ensuring rapid deployment of e-business applications. Tools for synchronization with relational and other databases can also be provided.

M-Vault will be deployed directly by organizations to support their own Extranet commerce networks and also by Internet, Telecommunications and Applications Service Providers offering M-Vault as an outsourced service. Availability is scheduled for November 1999.
