CNY's ExecuTrain computer training franchise bankrupt
SYRACUSE - The ExecuTrain franchise, with branches in Syracuse, Albany, and Rochester, has filed for bankruptcy.
"It's important to recognize that this was a franchise, and not the ExecuTrain corporation," says Christopher Bloor, vice president of field operations at ExecuTrain Corporation in Atlanta.
ET Partners of Upstate New York filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy -in mid-March, and is currently looking to liquidate the assets of the three locations. According to the Rochester Business Journal, the bankruptcy filing lists ET Partners of Upstate New York LLC's debts at $1.7 million, against assets of $45,973.
The company operated the franchise from Massachusetts, which Bloor says may have played a role in its downfall.
"ET Partners have held on to [the franchise] and tried to service it from a Boston location," he says. He adds that at this point, the ExecuTrain Corporation will avoid awarding a franchise to a company located outside the franchise's physical proximity. "It just doesn't serve the customers," he adds.
The Boston-based company stopped servicing the market about a year-and-a-half ago, Bloor says, adding that ET Partners of Upstate New York has held on to the location for the past two-and-a-half years. Another company, IRL Programs Inc., a Rochester-based company, previously held the franchise agreement. IRL filed for Chapter 11 in September 1999.
Currently, there are no other ExecuTrains located in New York State.
Bloor says that other ExecuTrain franchises have felt the economic pinch during the last year, but adds that the industry appears to be on a slight rebound.
"It's not been the easiest of years," he says. "[Other franchises have] struggled as well."
ExecuTrain provides technical and computer training through e-learning and traditional classroom instruction. ExecuTrain has 256 offices in 42 countries; 130 of those are in the United States.
