Dell to transfer desktop production from Malaysia to China
As China's WTO status nears, Dell Computer is relocating its desktop production activities for the Japanese market from Malaysia to China.
Dell operates two manufacturing facilities in Penang, Malaysia serving the Asia-Pacific region, and a plant in the Xiamen Special Economic Zone that ships made-to-order products to China and Hong Kong.
By month's end, production of Desktop PCs for the Japanese market will be transferred from the Penang centers to the Xiamen plant.
The Penang plants will continue to manufacture notebooks, workstations, servers and storage products for the Japanese market, as well as the complete line of Dell systems to the rest of Asia- Pacific except China and Hong Kong, which are serviced out of Xiamen. -(World IT Report)
