Notebook computer lock

There's protection and there's protection. American Power Conversion Corp.'s all-steel products are designed to keep everyone short of an 800-pound gorilla from stealing your notebook.

The APC by Kryptonite Notebook Computer Vault Lock is a 2-pound, three-spoke steel contraption with rubber bumpers that open just enough to let a laptop slip in place. Lock the Vault's center cylinder and no one can remove or even open the laptop. It's awkward, but it does what it's meant to do. The Vault comes with a braided steel cable that can be wrapped around a desk leg or some other anchor. Also included is a chromium steel plate that can be mounted permanently onto a piece of furniture such as your desk. Just lower the Vault onto the plate and lock it in place. In case the prospect of a large steel frame doesn't appeal to your sense of security, APC makes 6-foot-long, plastic-coated braided steel cables. APC by Kryptonite Combination Locks are thick (either 5 or 8 millimeters), heavy, and virtually uncuttable. Secured by a combination wheel, they snap into the enclosed Quick Mount node, which in turn hooks into your laptop's security slot. When you're not securing your laptop, you can protect your bike, your lawnmower, or any piece of equipment.
