Guardsmen Eligible for Joint MI Study Program
The Joint Military Intelligence College (JMIC) at Boiling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., is significantly enhancing the credentials of increasing numbers of National Guardsmen enrolled in its Postgraduate Intelligence Program for Reserves (PGIP-R).
This program leads to a master's degree in strategic intelligence (MSSI), which is valuable for career progression and mission accomplishment.
In addition, course completion is one qualifier for the Army's 35B strategic intelligence military occupational specialty and the new functional area 34 (strategic intelligence).
The PGIP-R meets on 23 weekends and two two-week intensive periods over two fiscal years, and Guardsmen participate in an active-duty man-day status (including travel and per diem) in addition to meeting annual training and drilling requirements.
Jointness is a key characteristic of JMIC, school officials said. Students from all components attend weekend classes together with their active-duty and civilian counterparts.
Consequently, almost as much learning goes on in the hallways and study rooms as in the seminars, as students learn how the other services operate and think, officials said.
JMIC accepts reserve-component students only through nomination from their parent service. Each service determines prerequisites beyond the basic college requirements of an accredited bachelor's degree and current Top secret SCI credentials, or eligibility for them.
