AzNA Celebrates the Diversity in Nursing in Honor of Nurses Week
Pamela K. Turner, RN
Pamela is currently working as a charge nurse at Flagstaff Medical Center. She graduated from Yavapai College as an RN and has been a nurse for over 30 years. She originally became a nurse because she always wanted to help people and thought that nursing was the best way to accomplish this. She believes that in nursing there are so many ways to reach out to people in need, whether it be from illness or shelter from dangerous situations.
Sandra M. Jones, RN, MSN-FNP, MBA, CCRN, CEN
Sandra has been a registered nurse for 23 years (one of 7 RNs in her family). She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing of Detroit, Michigan 198 I.She received her BS in Health Arts from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois in 1986. She received her MBA in Health Care Administration from Western International University in Phoenix in 1999 and her MSN-FNP from the University of Phoenix in January 2004.
Sandra received over $9,000 in scholarships from various professional organizations and describes that she could not have completed her MSN-FNP without their generous support. She is a true example of a professional, continuing to give back to these organizations as a long-standing member. Sandra describes that everything she has given has come back to her tenfold.
Marty Enriquez, RN, MS
Marty is a native Arizonan, born and raised in Douglas, Arizona. She always knew she wanted to be a nurse and she has fond memories of bandaging up her dolls and dog as a small child. Shortly after graduating with her BSN from the University of Arizona she joined the Peace Corps and was stationed in Venezuela for two years. As a Peace Corp volunteer, Marty worked as a head nurse in a local hospital and she traveled throughout Venezuela giving Peace Corps volunteers physicals and vaccinations. In 1978 Marty received her MS from the U of A College of Nursing and currently works as Vice President, Patient Care Services at University Medical Center. She's co-authored a college-level textbook on maternity nursing.
Belinda Dion, RN, BSN
Belinda is currently working as a charge nurse on the Medical Floor at Chandler Regional Hospital. She graduated with her associate degree in 1975 and her bachelors degree in 2002 and has been a nurse for over 29 years. She is currently enrolled at University of Phoenix where she is in the family nurse practitioner masters program. Belinda loves being a nurse as it is one of the few professions where people are so grateful for all that you do for them. She thinks that the nursing is so different and so much more rewarding that any other profession. Belinda is quoted as saying, "I can't think of anything that I would rather be doing."
Linda Wojtowicz, RN, MS
After receiving her Associate Degree from the College of DuPage in Illinois, Linda chose the specialty of bone marrow transplant and intensive care, where she worked for several years. She returned to school and received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in business from National University in Chicago. Linda also spent time in Bolivia on a medical mission, where she joined her colleagues in administering surgical services to the poorest of the poor. The Bolivia Nurses Association has awarded her an honorary lifetime membership. Linda will be bringing her experiences in participating in the design and construction of a 76-bed inpatient facility to the relocation of Sierra Vista hospital to a new facility. Linda has received acceptance into the Wharton Fellow Program in Management for Nurse Executives which confirms her personal passion for educational excellence in her profession. She currently works as the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center.
Lori Rehder, RN, BSN
Lori works at the Maricopa County Health Department as a community health nurse and is the President of AzNA Chapter 20, Community Health. The focus of her job as a community health nurse is to protect the health of the community by taking a proactive approach to keeping people healthy and out of the hospital. Her career choice as provided her many personal and professional rewards.
Andrea Krumpos, Student
Andrea is currently in block 2 at Glendale Community College and she is on the Board of Directors for the Student Nurses Association of Arizona. Andrea's decision to become a nurse was based on the fact that she loves to help people and that every day as a nurse she has the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.
Colleen Hallberg, RN, MSN
Colleen's education in health care began at Indiana University and went on to include earning a masters degree at Loyola University, in Chicago, in the 70's. She didn't realize at the time that having a master's degree in nursing would open so many doors throughout her career. Colleen worked for eight years as the Chief Nursing Officer at Banner Thunderbird in Glendale. What she appreciates the most about her career is that in her many varied roles-from working at the bed side as a med-surg nurse, educator, nursing director, and higher levels of hospital leadership-is that she loves nursing! As the current CEO at Banner Thunderbird, Colleen states, "First of all, I am a nurse".
Carol O. Long, RN, PhD
Carol Long celebrates 30 years as a nurse this year and believes that she has not experienced it all yet! After her most recent trips to China, the Philippines, and Colombia, South America, Carol sees the "shared vision" for the globalization of nursing. In those countries, she had the opportunity to evaluate nursing curriculum and determine nurse readiness for immigration to the US. Her company, Capstone Healthcare Group, focuses on agency and program start-ups, evaluation, quality management, training, technology interface, and strategic planning.
