Have slumping commodity prices fueled thoughts of heading back to school to update your marketing know-how? If so, a new program being offered by Mississippi State University might be right up your alley.

A new undergraduate degree program called Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics at Mississippi State University promises an array of opportunities both for first-time students pursuing a sought-after degree along their path to a successful career, and those students interested in furthering their agricultural marketing knowledge.

The degree program, administered by MSU's Department of Agricultural Economics, provides critical training in basic business management and economics. But the benefits do not stop there, says Darren Hudson, agricultural economist at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss.

To customize their educational and professional training, students in the program can choose to specialize in food marketing, environmental and resource economics, agribusiness management, agricultural law and policy, or food and fiber production management. Students in the program can receive individual and personal advising from experts in each of the option areas.

"This allows students to learn from experts in other disciplines on campus," says Hudson. "The options are designed to provide students with the flexibility to choose from a set of approved elective courses within each option, based on their needs and career interests."

The Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics degree, with its five options, is designed to help students tap the resources of the university, which will provide an education that prepares students for challenging, rewarding, and diverse careers.
