Discount air travel
Reserve forces eligible for air travel discount
Landmark legislation now permits Guardsmen and Reservists to save money and use government fares when traveling by air to perform weekend unit training.
The law, enacted Oct. 1, allows drilling reservists to buy airline tickets at General Services Administration City Pair contract rates.
Guardsmen and Reservists are entitled to unrestricted airfares; no requirement for advance purchase; no limits on length of stay at a location; full refund for unused tickets; no charge for cancellation or changes-, and lastseat availability and blackout period prohibition.
In order for reserve force members to utilize the rates for their official travel, they must: get written permission from their commander; use the GSA travel card-, book their travel through a contracted commercial ticket office; use contracted City Pair airlines, routes and schedules; and comply with all rules contained in the Joint Federal Travel Regulation.
