AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
All Nippon Airways (ANA) has indicated that its discount ticket campaign of 17-23 February had the desired effect of stimulating demand and that the airline was 'extremely pleased, with the results of the sale.
The discounting followed new laws introduced in Japan that allow carriers to set their own prices, including discounts without having to seek authority from the government.
ANA reported that the number of reservations made during the discount period was eight times higher than the same period in 1999, with 220,000 reservations made. The sale has also resulted in 500 of its 3500 flights during the discount travel period of 17-23 April 2000 being sold out according to Dow Jones.
