JM Barrie met the enchanting Llewelyn Davies boys one day in Kensington Gardens, and their games together, featuring pirates, cowboys and fairies, fed directly into Peter Pan. Adult men befriending small boys goes down rather badly these days, as Michael Jackson will attest, but using the beguiling child-man Johnny Depp (accent immaculate) in the lead role goes some way to dispel such vile thoughts. Kate Winslet is touching as the boys' frail mamma but it's all downhill when she starts coughing. An engaging Edwardian period piece swiftly becomes a blub-fest.
