NEW YORK -- Wal-Mart recently upped the ante in the quickly-escalating war for market share of the online/rent-by-mail DVD segment by dropping their monthly membership fee to $12.97. Just last month, Blockbuster dropped the price of its online membership fee to $14.99, undercutting both Wal-Mart and online rental pioneer Netflix. All Blockbuster plans include two in-store movie or game rentals per month and in response, Wal-Mart has introduced a tiered monthly plan for one, two or three rentals.
