On TV, Peter Richardson has retold various British historical events as American action blockbusters. Now he bases a film on the same joke by portraying Winnie not as a portly pensioner but as a young US marine (Christian Slater) who steals both the Enigma machine and the heart of the nubile Princess Elizabeth (Neve Campbell). The satire hits a few easy targets - the East End is populated by Riverdancing oirish mockneys - but Richardson aims mainly at the scatological silliness of a Carry On film or a French & Saunders spoof.
